About this time last year, we were eager to finally get our hands on The Maine’s new record, American Candy. Fast forward to present day, this album hasn’t only proved how talented the “Arizona emo group” is (sorry, this is never getting old!) but it has also been a way for their fans to portray how and what they feel, and to make them connect with the band in a whole new level.
The Maine has just dropped a new music video for the track “Am I Pretty?” The song embeds a deep meaning within its ironic/satirical lyrics. The video features statements from real people by delivering a lovely message in a way only The Maine can.
Lead singer, John O’Callaghan, describes the message quite perfectly with his always charming way with words, proving why The Maine has and will always be my favourite group of humans in the world:
“You are beautiful because your eyes are different sizes and your lisp gets in between your tongue and teeth every time you try to say “something”. You are beautiful because the scar under your chin looks like a spider and because you have a massive fear of heights. You are beautiful because there never has been, nor will there ever be anyone else on this Earth like you. Because your flaws are like fingerprints and should be embraced just like the free will that resides inside. You are not beautiful because of the symmetry in the little squares on your telephone, you are beautiful because “you” are the only “you” this place will ever know.”
