One thing we all can probably agree on is that 2020 has been nothing but twists and turns, so once something unexpected (and good) comes along, you bet we’re going to hold on tight! After releasing her album Lover only 11 months ago, Taylor Swift has gone and surprised fans with her eighth studio album, folklore, today. Yes, we’re losing our damn minds. No, we’re not mad about it either.
Created during quarantine, folklore is probably the most unexpected thing to come from Swift in years, but nothing is really normal anymore. However, normally we’d be graced with a new album within 2 years, but once inspiration strikes, you just go with it and hope it resonates.
“In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness,” Swift shared. “Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down.”
First single, “cardigan,” is a haunting ballad with a rather intricate storyline you will find weaving its way throughout the entire album. It’s accompanying video, however, is a magical, fairy-like reverie that is so perfect Disney should make a ride out of it. But those are just pipe dreams. Get lost in the visual yourself and you’ll find you’re hitting that play button on repeat.
