Kansas City’s pure xtc – the project of artist Taylor Hughes – specializes in her own personal brand of brooding alt-pop that is too good to pass up on. Starting the year off right with a new music video for EP title track, “shed my skin,” along with some show announcements, Hughes is proving once again that pure xtc is one to watch in the new year.
The video for “shed my skin” is Hughes at her most vulnerable. Leaving the chains of insecurity behind, the video demonstrates the raw honesty that comes with those late night conversations one may have with themselves and the power we all have in breaking those toxic mindsets we’ve been wallowing in.
“’shed my skin’ isn’t about being a better person for someone else.” Hughes shared. “The song is completely introspective and it’s a conversation I have with myself regularly. It’s the late night thoughts creeping into your head. Letting go of things and people who have hurt you, forgiving yourself for things you’ve done that hurt other people. Growing and evolving into the person you want to be. I made this video in my living room with my wife filming on my iPhone, it’s raw and intimate – just as I wrote the song to be.”
