Just when you thought you couldn’t possibly adore lovelytheband any more, they go and release one hell of a tearjerker of a music video for current single, “maybe, i’m afraid.”
Taken from the band’s hit debut album, finding it hard to smile, “maybe, i’m afraid” has been the go-to anthem of the fears and anxieties of entering a new relationship, but the song’s accompanying video takes things a bit further, telling a beautiful coming-of-age-story about a man spending his entire life struggling with his sexuality and self-acceptance. If you’re not ugly crying by the end of this one, check your pulse!
Joining forces with the Beyond I Do campaign, “maybe, i’m afraid” shows the band’s support for LGBTQ equality. The band have become advocates for LGBTQ rights and are making it their mission to inspire change.
After learning that LGBTQ Americans in 30 states can legally be fired, evicted or denied service just because of their sexuality, they knew they had to take a stand. Believing that LBGTQ Americans shouldn’t have to be afraid that they’ll lose their homes or jobs, simply because of who they love and who they are, “maybe, i’m afraid” is here to help promote acceptance, empathy and understanding for the millions of Americans who can be kicked out of their homes, fired from their jobs or denied services for simply living as their authentic selves.
