Little Rock, Arkansas indie-pop duo, joan, have been dazzling us since the very beginning in 2017. Today marks the release of the band’s debut album, superglue – via Photo Finish Records – and the record’s title track is a tearjerker that’ll have you sobbing like a baby for a good while even after the song is over.
Both members of the band – Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford – recently became fathers, so “superglue” is a very special, and rather poignant ending to the album.
Co-written with Fleurie, the track delves into being the best fathers they can be by holding their daughters up and being the one they can always run to when things fall apart. “As new dads, we were like, ‘What if we wrote this about our girls?’” recalls Thomas. “We want them to know we’re superglue for them.” I think I can speak for all of us when I say that the world needs more men like these two.
To celebrate the release of the band’s debut, they will be embarking on a US tour next month. Dates and tickets here.
