When The New Division’s John Kunkel announced his side project – Digital Shades – with Missing Words frontman James Meays, fans, including us, were elated. There’s no denying the musical chemistry between the two – blending both of their nostalgic, signature synthwave sensibilities into one infectious body of work.
Luckily for us, we never have to wait very long for new material. Following the release of the duo’s debut EP, Moonraker, new track “Summer Rain” – which we are honored to premiere here today – is here to dazzle us all! Chock full of everything we love about The New Division and Missing Words respectively, “Summer Rain” takes the Digital Shades project to new heights while possibly suggesting a sound that is yet to accompany future releases.
“James & I have both been busy finishing our respective records, and its been a while since we got together to write something new,” shared Kunkel. “‘Summer Rain’ came about as a way for both of us to step away from our projects and write something in a slightly different direction for Digital Shades. ‘Summer Rain’ was the result of that effort. James wrote most of the music and I topped it off with vocals, and a few other synth parts.”
