Artists in lockdown have gifted fans tons of anthems to fall in love with over this past year, but Coleurs takes the cake when it comes to tracks we feel are written about ourselves.
“This Life” is a candy-coated neon synthpop dream of a track about feeling ostracized in the communal nature of life. Needless to say, we feel this one on the deepest level and are honored to premiere the track and it’s accompanying visualizer at TDL today.
“‘This Life’ is about feeling overburdened by the world, news, negativity, and doing whatever you can to stay true to your path,” shared frontman Colin Wood. “The song was originally demoed out 2 years ago after the completion of my first EP, I was writing a bunch of songs for a forthcoming album and this is a track I really wanted to make work. I wanted the music to inform the lyrics, so I took a while after it was finished to sit down and think about the story this song could tell. I used a grand theme for this and many other songs, that we have such a small amount of time on earth, and that can be the guiding factor for our choices.”
“The video itself was originally supposed to be for another track ‘Your Words,’ but that song needed a narrative format, so Brad A. Kinnan and I revisited this concept later when I had this song ready. The overall feel of the track meshed with the moving imagery, and San Francisco was the backdrop because I spent a lot of time there as a kid seeing family, friends and it felt so natural to include it in my work.”
