[Pick Of The Week] Twenty One Pilots – “Level of Concern”

Over the past few weeks, I can’t even begin to tell you how many submissions I’ve received talking about a “Coronavirus album.” What does that even mean? I get that we’re all in quarantine right now and creativity is flowing left and right – or not at all, for some – but an entire album about the Coronavirus? Seriously?

While I knew a lot of our favorite bands and artists would be releasing some gems in the future after all of this, I never expected this one to come as quickly as it did, but unlike this crazy pandemic, this is something we actually would like to keep around.

Twenty One Pilots have been teasing the possibility of new music within the past few weeks. Singer Tyler Joseph recently revealed on Twitter that he had been working on new material while in self-isolation, sharing, “always writing, but this one feels like it should just come out now. I think it’s simple but hopeful,” noting that it’s the first song he has ever written on electric guitar.

Fans never expected what we’ve been gifted today in the form of new track, “Level of Concern.” Following up the success of 2018’s Trench, “Level of Concern” tackles the COVID-19 pandemic in a way we’ve all been trying to grapple with, written and recorded amidst the current chaos.

Encouraging hope during these difficult times, “Level of Concern” and its accompanying video shines a light on how we are all coping with the situation while offering up sweet little distractions like wife Jenna and baby daughter Rosie along with drummer Josh Dun’s fiance, actress Debby Ryan.

A portion of the proceeds from “Level of Concern” will go to Crew Nation, a global relief fund for live music crews which aims to help touring and venue crews affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
