“You make me feel like going back in time…”
St. Lucia‘s new video for “Another Lifetime” does just that. Longtime fans will feel transported back to 2012 when the band released their self-titled debut EP while time traveling to 2016 as the track’s accompanying video – courtesy of director and animator Lauren Haug – is reminiscent of their sophomore effort, Matter. However, in true St. Lucia fashion, this new era points directly to the future.
“Another Lifetime” takes listeners on a journey, perhaps to ‘another lifetime,’ perhaps to a time in the past where things felt lighter. In a post-pandemic world, we need songs like this to lift us up and drift away to a better place. Luckily for us, we won’t have to wait much longer for more music. The band’s new EP, Utopia I, is due out April 29 via Nettwerk.
“It’s about feeling the rhythm of life, almost like the force in Star Wars,” shared Jean-Philip Grobler. “This track clearly marked the beginning of a new era for us. We’d just moved to Patti’s hometown, Konstanz in Germany, in February 2021 after spending 2020 in New York. We’d just had our second child, Charlie, and we were feeling hopeful about new beginnings after the darkness and confusion of the year before. Another Lifetime felt like watching the sun coming over the horizon after a long night. We don’t like explaining our lyrics too much because they are intuitive, and often we don’t understand them ourselves. But, it seems like the song is about listening to your own intuition and going within when the world outside seems too confusing to comprehend.”
