[Pick Of The Week] Digital Shades – “Blue”

It’s hard not to get excited about two of your favorites teaming up for a pretty rad side project. The New Division‘s John Kunkel and Missing Words frontman, James Meays, have come together for new synthpop project, Digital Shades. Fans may remember the name in passing, but none of us expected to be surprised with a debut track and forthcoming EP so soon.

“Blue” mixes the killer dynamic between both powerhouse artists – previously sampled in TND’s “Rewind” and Missing Words’ “Howl at The Moon” – into one bombastic sound all their own with a hint of their 80s influences mixed in.

An anthem for those who use writing and music as an outlet to express themselves, “Blue” is a beacon of light for all the sad souls out there who just want to feel okay.

“‘Blue’ is about how the two of us would get complaints from our wives that all our songs were ‘sad,'” shared Meays to Magnetic Magazine. “The chorus sings, ‘I just sing these songs to feel okay’ and there’s a lot of truth in that – we write not only for fun but also to help us feel better, which is probably why a lot of our songs can seem sad from time to time.”
