Ever since I first heard “Here” by Alessia Cara, I knew this girl was my spirit animal. It’s hard not to fall in love with the now 20 year-old singer as she radiates genuine honesty all around and I’m pretty sure we’d use “Wild Things” as our theme here at The Daily Listening if it was allowed! Cara premiered her new video for “Scars To Your Beautiful” today off her 2015 debut, Know-It-All and let me warn you: grab those tissues!
Expanding on the theme of self-acceptance and embracing your own beauty, much like TLC‘s “Unpretty” and Christina Aguilera‘s “Beautiful,” in the past, “Scars To Your Beautiful” is a modern-day anthem for those who have been burned by the world’s harsh criticism and who may need a shoulder to cry on when it gets overwhelming. I’ve always especially loved the lyric, “You don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart,” as it fights back to those disgusting notions that we are anything but perfect as we are.
