It’s been a great year for fans of The New Division. After releasing a killer fifth studio album, Modern Life, this past March, the electronic/synthpop act has unleashed a brand new single, “One Day,” today!
Exploring themes of loss, addiction and love, “One Day” will pull listeners in instantly as those signature TND dark synths come into play.
“Two and a half years ago, in November 2020, I began writing ‘One Day,” shared frontman John Kunkel. “I started with a Prophet-5 synth sound that’s heard in the beginning and throughout the song. At first, I didn’t realize the song would become dance-driven, but it slowly took that shape. The song is about two friends losing touch and trying to reconnect. In the song, the disconnect is really dramatic, but on a personal level I think the idea for the song came about when I was randomly going through my phone’s contact list and realizing how I’ve lost connection with so many people over the years. What would happen if I just randomly picked up the phone and called them? Would I want to talk to them? Would they want to talk to me? Ultimately, ‘One Day’ revolves around this theme of connection. In an era where virtual connectivity has reached unprecedented heights, it paradoxically becomes the greatest facilitator of relationship dissolution.”
