Irish indie-rock extraordinaire band, The Academic, had us captivated since the first time we heard about them. Following the release of their well-received EP, Loose Friends, in 2015 and last year’s Mixtape 2003, the band has come back with the hottest alt-rock track of the summer.
“Bear Claws” is a track that doesn’t need many elements to make it vibrant and delightful. Opening with an energetic guitar-riff that remains constant throughout the entire thing, the lyrics – emotive and straight up honest – give this song an anthemic feeling. The Academic has also announced a North American tour this fall with support from Judah & The Lion! Check out the dates here.
“‘Bear Claws’ is a song about when you are coming of age; that period of your life when you’re just starting to socialize, getting out there and doing it. We all do stupid things at that time of our lives, not thinking about the longer-term implications. It’s also about asking people to be honest and open rather than holding back, which in adolescence is easier said than done.”
