“‘Someone’ was a song I wrote as therapy, basically. I was getting over a breakup and struggling with writer’s block… ironic, I know, but I was feeling a lot of things and I just hadn’t been able to put any of those feelings into words, they were all tangled up, ” shared Jimenez. “One day I struck up a conversation with a friend in which she told me about what she was going through after her own breakup, and it was like she was describing my own experience. I knew that I was going to be able to get over that person eventually. After all, I’ve survived breakups before… but this feeling was different. Even though I knew I was going to be okay, I was sure that I was never going to feel so in love again. I wasn’t going to be sad forever, but I was hopeless because I felt like trying to date anyone after my ex would be useless. Like no one out there would ever be able to make me as happy as she did. And so I took some inspiration from that conversation and from my own experience to write ‘Someone’ just as therapy. And who would’ve thought! It actually ended up sounding pretty good.”
