What’s a better remedy for heartbreak than an indie-pop anthem to add to your playlists? Costa Rica’s Javi Jimenez has returned with new single, “better without u,” and fans of LANY and joan better not sleep on this one!
Heart-wrenching as it is cathartic, “better without u” is a solemn yet glittering tale of letting go; delving into the ways we tend to hold on to things and people we shouldn’t while pretending we’ve totally moved on and let go.
“‘better without u‘ is about that ‘fake it till you make it’ attitude in getting over someone,” shared Jimenez. “When you’re in your most vulnerable and honest, at 3am, you admit you would do anything to get back to your loved one, but you feel like you could never show that, so you pretend you’re ok, you lie and say you’re better off. This lie escalates and, often, leads to harmful overcompensation trying to hook up constantly with whoever you can, ironically leaving you feeling even more alone in the end.”
“better without u” is set to be featured on Jimenez’s upcoming debut EP.
