[LISTEN] Angela Sclafani – “Bell Jar”

NYC-based independent singer-songwriter, Angela Sclafani, is a force to be reckoned with! With what seems like a million accolades under her belt, this girl is on top of her game, and justifiably so!

Versed in both the music and theater worlds, Sclafani effortlessly blends both into a kaleidoscope of lovely imagery and classic singer-songwriter vibes to transport listeners into her world. Engaging as she is genuine, the sky isn’t even the limit for Sclafani. She has even performed with the likes of Courtney Love and Years & Years!

In her new track, “Bell Jar,” the singer draws inspiration from the iconic 1963 Sylvia Plath novel of the same name, seamlessly blending elements of folk, Americana and pop. Using literary images to encourage listeners to shatter social norms and conventions meant to hold us down, “Bell Jar” is an anthem for those ready to shake things up and squash down those expectations.

“My music usually sits in between multiple genres. I didn’t realize that this song had an Americana feel until I recorded my vocals and listened back. There was a lilt or twang to my voice that just came out naturally. I think it’s because I’ve been listening to artists like Neko Case and Waxahatchee, which have pushed some of my songwriting into folk territory. ‘Bell Jar’ added another color to the palate that I’m working with vocally and melodically. I followed the song where it wanted to go and it surprised me.”
