This collection of songs reflects a time in my life of self-discovery and healing from the pain of not feeling good enough for someone. These songs allowed me to take back the love I had for someone else and restore it for myself. A period for growth and regaining the confidence in who I am and what I deserve.
“Move On”
This was the first song I ever wrote with my producer naebird and after leaving this session we knew we had started something truly special. Going into writing this first song I had a lot of built up ideas that I needed to explore in my music. This song allowed me to reflect on all the heartbreak I had endured from a past relationship and finally accept that it’s time to let go. This song is about empathizing with my ex and understanding how hard it must of been for him too. It allowed me to forgive fully and release any resentment I was holding onto. It made me realize how far I’ve come from that time in my life and I wanted him to know that I am truly grateful for him, but it’s ok to forgive himself and move on.
“The Other Side”
This song has been a long time coming for me. It’s something I’ve wanted to say for a while, but didn’t quite have the words. My whole growing up I’ve struggled in relationships and friendships that I feel I had to bring myself down for because I didn’t want to make someone feel insecure or uncomfortable. This song is about having that savior complex and wanting to dim your light to make them appear brighter. It’s about coming to the realization that if you’re with the right person they would only want you to shine brighter and uplift you to your highest self. I wrote this song for anyone who relates to this feeling and empower them so that they do not have to hide any part of themselves from anyone. They can just be who they really are.
“What’s It Gonna Be”
“What’s It Gonna Be” is about a relationship that’s suffering because the person you love continues to choose their pride over you. This song lives in the same world as “The Other Side” with a lot more angst. This song talks about being with someone who is your teammate and partner, but starts to lose sight of that. In turn, their insecurities take hold and allow them to spiral into sabotaging your relationship.
“Hate The Day”
“Hate The Day” is the last call. This song took a lot of guts for me to write because it was almost like ripping a page out of my diary. The person I wrote this song about is a songwriter and after we broke up I would listen to his songs he released hoping for some hidden message for me. It was a time when I didn’t feel like I had the closure I needed so this was the next best thing. There was one song in particular that really tore me apart when I heard it. The song said things I had been wanting to hear from him for so long and to this day I don’t really know for sure if it was meant for me, but regardless it inspired “Hate The Day.” A song about knowing the day will come where that person has moved on and you know it’s finally time for you to let go.
