So my current music obsession for the past few months has been an electronic artist and producer by the name of Shawn Wasabi. Now, super cool name aside, this guy in my opinion takes electronic music to the next level. With a customized Midi Fighter, which is a tool commonly used by DJ’s, and a lot of muscle memory, Shawn creates his music using samplings of music and sounds. I can really only describe his music as awesomely unique. His most popular song, and one of my favorites, is a bubbly tune called “Marble Soda.”
The video itself shows Shawn playing his custom Midi Fighter, which he calls the Midi Fighter 64. This model is the only one of its kind and uses four Midi Fighter machines that are connected together to function as one. It even has its own unique firmware to make it run properly. That’s a really in a nutshell explanation though; if you want to read more about the creation process of the Midi Fighter 64, check it out at djtechtools.com.
As for the song “Marble Soda,” Shawn uses samples of his favorite songs and sounds, like ones from old arcade games and ringtones (to name a few) to create one great song. So awesome! I’m honestly such a sucker for this kind of fun, feel good music. You can check out his live mashup “Marble Soda” video below! He also has a bunch of other songs on his Soundcloud too, so check that out for more!
