RIYL: Cannons, Phantogram, The Bad Dreamers
There are certain bands that upon your first listen, you just get that warm, fuzzy feeling – as if to say, “where have they been all my life?” That is how we felt when being introduced to OVRGRWN. Aside from all that good fuzzy stuff, we also felt quite refreshed, and you’ll soon see why as you press play.
OVRGRWN consists of California natives Brandon and Danae who met in 2012 through a Craigslist ad for another project. The two formed an undeniable creative energy, thus forming indie-pop project OVRGRWN.
You all know how much we love our synthpop, and this duo does not disappoint. New track, “Slow,” taken from the band’s upcoming EP, Momentary High, due out on July 30 via FiXT Neon, is pulsating with 80’s cinematic moments blended with modern day indie-pop to form a recipe for a deliriously catchy summer playlist gem.
“The original idea and demo for ‘Slow’ dates back to early 2019. It didn’t make the cut for our debut EP, but we were able to breathe new life into it when revisiting the track a year later. Although many of the lyrics carried over from the original demo, Danae reworked the verses to better encapsulate her feelings of uncertainty and hesitation during the chaotic year. The juxtaposition of calling out to ‘move slow’ alongside the driving, pulsating beat is one of her favorite moments on the upcoming EP.”
