[Daily Discovery] Hothead Wave

RIYL: The Breeders, Pale Waves, Shallow Pools

Nashville-based indie-rock band, Hothead Wave, is the brainchild of songwriter/producer Lizzy Cruz. With pop-infused garage-rock sensibilities, Hothead Wave builds off of Cruz’s wide array of diverse influences – from the streets of Lima, Peru to Kansas City and her current home of Nashville.

The band’s debut single, “Here,” is a vibrant late-nineties meets-early-aughts pop/rock anthem delving into not being seen or heard in a relationship. With the question of, “Can I be here?” Cruz declares her power and sets boundaries in what she’s not willing to sacrifice.

“‘Here’ is about a relationship dynamic where you don’t feel seen or heard. I wanted this song to be upbeat and have a demanding tone, rather than melancholy and slow,” shared Cruz. “I wanted the question “Can I be here…?!” to be rhetorical. Like, just let me be who I am! At this point in my life, this song is more than a rhetorical question, it’s a demand, a declaration.”
