Back in 2012, there was one show I was a loyal follower of: X-Factor US. Even after last viewing season two of the music competition more than three years ago, there is one contestant that has continued to remain in the forefront of my mind: Diamond White. As former contestants from season two have shot to top of the charts the following months, such as Fifth Harmony and Bea Miller, it is now sixteen-year-old White’s moment to shine, and her new single “Born Rich,” from her upcoming, self-titled EP, is the perfect song to achieve that.
When only a single snippet of “Born Rich” reached my ears, I knew there was no way the song was going to escape my brain for the remainder of the day. “Born Rich” strikes the perfect balance between pop with the catchy chorus while also containing R&B undertones with the heavy use of saxophone and soulful vocals. This combines to create a refreshing sound, one that I hope the rest of her EP reflects.
After a long time coming, three years to be exact, I’m relieved to say the release of “Born Rich” was well worth the wait, providing a promising future for White’s music career.
