RIYL: The Maine, Bad Suns, Neon Trees
Edinburgh’s DAYTIME TV – comprised of Will Irvine, Chris Clark, Gareth Thompson and John Caddick – like a lot of us, entered a major reset in 2020. Previously known as Hunter & The Bear, the band knew they were due for a change. Enter new name, DAYTIME TV, just in time for a worldwide pandemic where a lot of us found ourselves actually watching daytime TV, no less!
With five killer tracks already under their belt, these guys are bound to be your new favorite band within seconds of listening to their infectious blend of indie-pop and alternative. Another plus is that we won’t have to wait very long for their debut album. On February 25, they will be releasing Nothing’s On But Everybody’s Watching, featuring previously released tracks “Hush,” “Side Effects,” “Ugly,” “Zombie,” and today’s highlighted gem, “Communication.”
“It can cut pretty deep when you dredge up old scars but I wanted to be honest with these lyrics,” shared Irvine. “It’s one way of dealing with it. Sometimes things take a turn in a relationship and you’re left questioning why. Going round in circles trying to make sense of it forever after. It’s one of the more tormenting parts of human nature and can really mess with your head. We crave meaning and answers for everything. When it’s all said and done, maybe a little more communication when the first cracks started forming would’ve stopped the whole thing from falling apart. Maybe not. We’ll never know. My advice is: write a song about it. The pain bleeds out in the ink. Works every time.”
